MANISTEE COUNTY LIBRARY THE BIG READ The WSCC Big Read is a community-wide project that involves a network of collaborative partners across the college district. One central focus is Idlewild, a town huge in the history of American jazz and blues. The Big Read project focuses on the natural connections betweenTheir Eyes Were Watching God, and the music scene in Idlewild, with musical performances accompanying speakers, panel discussions, and book talks across the district. Our goal is to increase civic and cultural awareness and foster a greater sense of community through the enactment and reenactment of culture. Their Eyes Were Watching God, Zorra Neale Hurston's vibrant novel presents Janie Mae Crawfords, growth from a voiceless teenage girl into a woman who takes charge of her own destiny. We have several programs for the Big Read:
